CNG Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: How much CNG will your largest cylinder hold?
A: Our largest “standard” cylinder is a 25x60” which holds about 32 GGE and we have a wide range of sizes and types all the way down to 2.7GGE.
- Q: What types of cylinders do you stock?
A: We have a cylinder for every application. We carry types 1, 2, 3, and 4 cylinders and constantly update our inventory with the latest brands and sizes to meet your needs.
- Q: How long will it take to get my cylinders?
Most cylinders are in stock and can ship today (if you order by noon on weekdays). Most U.S. orders take 2-4 days for delivery, but we can overnight and expedite orders at your request. The freight companies typically require an arm and/or leg for expedited shipping. Out of stock items can be special ordered with air freight for delivery within 14 days, or a slower (less expensive) shipping method of 4-8 weeks. But, most items are in stock at all times.
- What if I don’t have a shipping dock or forklift?
No worries; we can deliver your cylinder(s) on a truck that’s equipped with a lift gate. The driver will set your cylinder(s) on the ground at your location. Moving the cylinder from the delivery point is up to you. The freight companies charge extra for the lift gate, this can be bid upon request with your shipping quote.
- Q: Can you ship my cylinders with the valve installed?
No. Protecting the valve during shipping is critical; we suggest installing it after the cylinder is mounted to the vehicle. Imagine you get on a subway train with pen between your teeth. At some point another person, wall or object is going to bump into you and knock the pen out of your mouth, or (if your grip is tight like Grizzly Adams) rip out your teeth. A similar principle applies to a valve protruding from your cylinder during shipping.
- Q: Can I order just one cylinder?
Yes. We have a state of the art warehouse that can handle single orders and orders of hundreds of cylinders at a time. We are happy to accommodate your needs, large or small.
- Q: Do you sell brackets?
Yes, Click Here
- Q: Do you convert vehicles to CNG?
A: No. We’ve focus our efforts on providing fast, easy and inexpensive access to NGV components such as cylinders, brackets and valves.
- Q: Are your cylinders certified?
Yes. All our cylinders are USDOT FMVSS-304 and NGV-2 compliant and can be used on all public roads in the U.S.A.
- Q: What is the life cycle of your cylinders?
NGV-2 certification gives us a 20 year life on all our cylinders.
- Q: Can I use your cylinders for onsite storage for fast fueling?
- Q: Do you sell C NG compressors for home, or fuel station equipment?
- Q: What is the best cylinder for vehicle “X”
We don’t know. The type of cylinder(s) you choose for your vehicle will depend on your capacity needs, weight limits, space constraints, etc. Simply measure the compartment where the CNG cylinder will be installed and we can help find a good fit to maximize the fuel in the given area(s).
- Q: Can I put multiple cylinders on my vehicle to extend my range?
Heck yes you can.
- Q: Do you sell LNG, Propane or Hydrogen cylinders?
No, no and no.
- Q: So many acronyms, what does it all mean?
NGV (Natural Gas Vehicle)
CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)
USDOT (United States Department of Transportation)
NFPA (National Fire Prevention Agency)
LNG (Liquid Natural Gas)
LP (Liquid Propane)
- Q: I’m buying three cylinders; can you give me a volume discount?
We wish, but our standard prices are already near wholesale pricing so we are only able to offer discounts on larger orders. If you order over 20 cylinders we can offer you a 10% discount. If you order over 50 cylinders we will offer you a 15% discount. Any order over 100 cylinders will be bid at special pricing.
- Q: Do you manufacture the cylinders?
No, we are a distributor for the worlds leading CNG cylinder manufacturers. By not limiting ourselves to manufacturing one type or brand of cylinder we are able to offer our customers the widest range of cylinders under “one roof” in America. With warehouses in SLC, UT and Tulsa, OK, we can give your customers the fantastic service they’ve grown to expect from American CNG.
- Q: How much will it cost to ship a cylinder?
That depends on the size and quantity of the cylinders you order. The shipping destination also plays a part in freight pricing. But, we shop up to 19 different carriers each time we get a shipping quote, so you can be assured that you are getting the best price out there.
- Q: What are your cylinders made of?
Our type 1 cylinders are made from seamless steel pipe.
Our type 2 cylinders are made from deep drawn steel plate steel, hoop wrapped with steel wire.
Our Type 3 cylinders are made from aluminum with a full wrap of carbon fiber.
Our type 4 cylinders are made from a plastic liner with a full carbon fiber over wrap
The manufacturing facilities have certified inspectors on site to ensure that all government regulations pertaining to the manufacturing process are met.
- Q: Do you sell used cylinders?
Never-ever-ever-ever-ever-ever-ever. Your safety is our number one concern! We would never put you at risk like that. Many used cylinders have been removed from vehicles that have been in collisions. While they may look ok, there could be damage to the cylinder that can’t be seen with the naked eye. Many times used cylinders are stored improperly, handled roughly and have some defect which caused the original owner to remove the cylinder from their vehicle. Buying a used cylinder is also the most expensive way to purchase cylinders if you plan on owning the vehicle for more than a few years.
- Q: What is the pressure rating for your cylinders?
All of our cylinders are rated for an operating pressure of 3,600 PSI and are NGV-2 and USDOT FMVSS-304 compliant.
- Q: Do you offer financing on cylinder purchases?
In order to keep our rock bottom prices, we ask that you pay for your cylinders before we ship them. We take credit cards, checks and cash.
- Q: I’m doing a bid for a customer; can you hold the cylinders for a week in case I get the job?
We are unable to hold cylinders that are not paid for. If you are confident that you will get the job you can purchase the cylinders and we will ship them to you, guaranteeing that you will have them for your customer.
